ThyssenKrupp Elevator acquires airport projects in India
Major order for 267 elevators, escalators, moving walks and passenger boarding bridges for Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi) / Bengaluru International Airport (Bangalore) already completed with 38 systems from ThyssenKrupp Elevator
Named after the former prime minister Indira Gandhi, the country's second-largest airport is a hub for international air traffic. It handles around 20 million passengers a year with over 200,000 arrivals and departures. The new Terminal 3 is designed for 27 million passengers per year and covers an area of 4.4 million square meters. It is scheduled to open in mid-2010.
Elevators and escalators at Bengaluru International Airport
16 escalators and 22 machine room-less elevators - eight of them panoramic elevators - have been installed at the new Bengaluru International Airport. Planned to open later this year, the airport is 40 kilometers outside Bangalore in southern India, which with over five million inhabitants is the country's third-largest city. Initially planned to handle eleven million passengers per year, the 16.4 square kilometer airport is to be expanded into a hub for over 50 million passengers per year.
