Modernization of Metro in Azerbaijan
ThyssenKrupp Elevator produces and installs escalators with energy-efficient, multi-colored LED lighting and extreme rises
A further highlight: Three of the escalators in the modernized Metro station have a rise of 40.65 meters, transporting passengers between the platforms and the overground exits. Their resultant length of around 90 meters makes them some of the longest modern escalators in the world. By comparison: In a normal underground station in Germany, escalators commonly have a rise of between five and seven meters.
The six new escalators from ThyssenKrupp Elevator have replaced installations that were some 45 years old. In the future they will guarantee not only the highest levels of comfort, speed and safety, but also a 30 to 40 percent reduction in energy costs thanks to modern drive and control technology.
Baku has 1.7 million inhabitants and is one of the most important ports on the Caspian Sea. It is known among other things for its oil and gas deposits and for its historic walled city, which was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 2000. Baku's first Metro service started operation in 1967. Today's network is 31.7 kilometers long and has 21 stations.
