Thomson Reuters Launches Research In View, a New Breed of Research Management System for Universities

Philadelphia, PA, London, UK, (PresseBox) - Thomson Reuters today announced the launch of Research In ViewTM a new breed of research management system that will provide universities with the most comprehensive and timely view of institutional performance.

Thomson Reuters Research In View is an enterprise-wide solution that aggregates and standardizes data from disparate sources to provide a unified database and analytic interface for managing, searching and reporting on university activities and performance.

"Research In View extends the capabilities of most university research management systems by providing mission critical information that cuts across teaching, research and learning," said Keith MacGregor, executive vice president at Thomson Reuters. "Research In View will enable universities anywhere in the world to track and associate people with projects, strategic goals and with traditional measures such as classes taught or published journal articles."

The new solution will draw on university and faculty specific data in combination with the unique information assets of Thomson Reuters, including Web of KnowledgeSM, conference proceedings, grants and patent information, creating a unified and up-to-date view of activity across the university.

By providing a single point of access to multiple data sources the solution not only reduces the burden of data entry, it also streamlines regular search and reporting tasks. Key features of the solution include outcome-based reporting to manage the full scope of scholarship activities more effectively, and data exporting enabling faculty to create grant biosketch documents and interactive CVs. In addition, Research In View supports internal and public searching to identify areas of expertise and increase the opportunity for collaborative teaching and research activities.

Research in View was developed by the Research Analytics business at Thomson Reuters in consultation with university administrators' worldwide. It builds on the work done at The Ohio State University to develop and implement OSU:pro - a faculty profiling system.

"OSU:pro offers faculty members a way to record, track, and archive key information about their accomplishments in teaching, research, and service," said Joseph A. Alutto, The Ohio State University's executive vice president and provost. "Faculty and administrators alike have found OSU:pro to be a useful tool for facilitating annual reviews and sharing information with potential collaborators. We are pleased that our licensee, Thomson Reuters, is helping us extend our work to national and global audiences."

The Research Analytics business of Thomson Reuters offers a continuum of products, tools, and services supporting strategic research decisions and the evaluation and management of research. In addition to Research In ViewTM, this suite of solutions includes the recently launched InCitesTM as well as other tools and services fuelled by content from Web of KnowledgeSM - the most trusted discovery tool for scholarly research, and ScienceWire® - a global platform for aggregating content and relating people, products, organizations, and outcomes.
