More than 500 companies are exhibiting, 22% of which are leading foreign companies of international standing. More than 60 conferences are scheduled featuring over 300 speakers, institutional representatives, authoritative experts and opinion makers.

Solarexpo is recognized as the key event to interpret the trends in solar energy.
Nextbuilding will make its debut as the new point of reference for sustainable construction and architecture. The event has been chosen to host the prize-giving for the European Commission’s Green Building Award.

On May 8 and 9, the world’s solar community will come together at the Global Solar Summit
to discuss the challenges facing this “industry under transformation”

On May 8, the first edition of The Innovation Cloud, the new exhibition and conference platform devoted to cutting-edge energy technologies, will get underway and run for three days at the Milan-Rho Trade Fair. More than 500 companies will be exhibiting (in addition to 190 brands represented) in five pavilions (covering a total area of 48,000 square metres). More than 22% are from abroad, representing companies of international standing. Around 30,000 visitors are expected.

Internationalization and technological hybridization are the key words in interpreting the enormous topicality of this event, which is guaranteed to create the ideal conditions for the generation of synergies and the build-up of a decisive critical mass, which is a fundamental prerequisite for advocacy in favour of the green economy. In its first edition, The Innovation Cloud has already achieved acknowledgement and consensus among the leading institutional and trade association representatives of national and international standing.

The multi-technological concept of The Innovation Cloud represents and accentuates the increasingly marked hybridization among innovative energy technologies: from other renewable sources for electricity to storage and smart grid technologies, thermal renewables and the various fields of energy efficiency and electric vehicles. The approach chosen for the event - specialisation in subject areas related to fields of innovation in synergy with each other – has been welcomed by companies and operators alike, who will take part in the various forms of training, discussion and updates that have been developed specifically for dedicated events such as E:Move, Polygen, E:Storage, Eclima etc.

Solarexpo, which this year faces the most difficult market for solar photovoltaic energy since the year 2000 (a fall in the Italian market in 2012 of around 60% compared to 2011, according to the most authoritative analytical sources), is acknowledged to be the key point of reference in Italy and one of the most important events in the world specialising in solar energy, attracting the industry’s leading players at both the national and international levels.

On May 8 and 9, the Global Solar Summit, the first international conference organised by the Global Solar Alliance, will be devoted to the main factors underpinning the changes in the world’s solar photovoltaic industry. The event, entitled “An industry under transformation”, will open with a session devoted to the conditions for sustainable growth in a free market: governing the growth cycles and managing commercial disputes. Among the speakers at the opening session on May 8 will be the spokespersons for the leading associations of the sector in Europe, the United States and China – Epia, Seia, EU ProSun and Afase – together with the director of the photovoltaic sector at the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, who will speak on the issue of trade disputes between Europe and China, amongst other matters.

As part of The Innovation Cloud, there will be 60 opportunities to attend conferences or training sessions of national and international significance, organised along the lines of subject pathways of great topicality: the future for solar technology, the challenge of internationalization, the hybridization of technologies for buildings, intelligent networks and cities, the role of green finance in supporting growth, the impact of the new incentives for renewable sources of electricity and cogeneration. In addition to these events, there will be many opportunities to get updated on the regulatory framework and advanced training for managerial and technical personnel.

Within this gamut of prospects for updating and discussion, an importance place will be reserved for design research and technological innovation within the field of energy efficiency in buildings. For the first time in Italy, the European Commission’s “European GreenBuilding Awards 2013” will be presented as part of the event on May 8.

Finally, within the Internationalization Hot Spot area, delegations from the most attractive emerging markets for renewable energies, like Romania, South Africa, Mexico and Morocco, to mention but a few, will be on hand to explain the interesting investment opportunities in their respective countries. As well as the exhibition area, a matchmaking service will be available that, on the basis of a planned agenda, will allow exhibitors and visitors to organise business meetings during the exhibition aimed at encouraging the opening up of new emerging markets.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Milan Trade Fair, Enrico Pazzali, said: “We are very happy to witness the debut of The Innovation Cloud at the Milan Trade Fair and, within that, Solarexpo, the most important event dedicated to solar energy in our country. The Innovation Cloud chose the Milan Trade Fair to start a new chapter, that of internationalization. Thanks to The Innovation Cloud, our range of exhibitions has now been augmented with the key division of renewable energies, on display here at the very highest technological level. Moreover, the fact that this exhibition is being staged with a completely new exhibition and conference format, in line with the developments in energy technologies and firmly oriented towards the future, can only contribute to its appeal and authority, even in the current difficult scenario of which we are all aware.”

Luca Zingale, founder and scientific director of The Innovation Cloud, said: “For us, the first edition of The Innovation Cloud is the outcome of an enormous design challenge and the start of a constant commitment on the strategic front together with so many others who are aware of the need for this event. The participation that has marked the launch of this exhibition leads us to think that the extremely difficult market conditions and the great changes in the world of energy, noted by us with great anticipation, have led to a common approach among operators, a great spirit of collaboration and exciting synergies. As a result, we look forward to 2014 with hope and determination”.
