Jaluna, Netbricks and Texas Instruments Join to Demonstrate IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Functionality on TI’s Carrier Infrastructure Platform
Netbricks’ IMS Platform Will Feature Jaluna’s Linux Environment and TI’s Digital Signal Processing at VON Europe, Stockholm, May 15-18
An all-IP based infrastructure will enable both wireless and wireline service providers to deliver more products and services with one-third less equipment and in half the time. Equipment manufacturers will realize an effective, evolutionary path to developing systems capable of delivering multimedia/3G services, within an IP multimedia services (IMS) environment, while streamlining investment in research and development. Additionally, consumers will benefit from greater flexibility and access to more sophisticated services available to them, such as mobile video conferencing and video content streaming.
Netbricks is a leading company supplying telecommunication protocols technology to all major telecom equipment manufacturers and integrators. Proposing a complete product portfolio covering circuit and packet telecommunication technologies, Netbricks is partnering with major telecom and data companies to accelerate transition to the "All IP" future telecom model including the most recently standardized IMS and TISPAN architectures.
"We are excited to demonstrate efficient IMS control protocols functionality on TI's DSP," said Didier Raffenoux, president of Netbricks. "We believe that this will enable the control functionality to also run on that platform which is already present in the media domains of IMS and to provide a cost efficient solution to deploy IMS networks and equipment."
Jaluna is the global leader in virtual infrastructure software for connected devices. Jaluna OSware, Linux Edition for TI's TMS320C6000™ DSP is designed for products, such as multimedia IP devices and telecom equipment that require capabilities and features of Linux, in association with TI's DSP/BIOS operating system and applications. Customers using Jaluna OSware, Linux Edition quickly create new software solutions that enable the introduction of Linux at a minimal cost. Jaluna OSware also guarantees that the same proven software can be used on more and more powerful processor boards in the future, in particular those based on multi-core chips.
"Our virtualization technology on TI's DSP enables a fast and easy implementation of Netbricks software," said Mark Milligan, vice president of marketing and business development of Jaluna. "Jaluna OSware, Linux Edition on TI's carrier infrastructure platform can be the basis for a new set of applications migrating to DSP."
TI's carrier infrastructure platform offers higher solution density and significant flexibility to handle both control and processing functionality. The DSP based system on a chip solution offers video and wireless codecs, setting the stage for IMS that offers unmatched quality of services and unique offerings, like digital video from generation to delivery and digital quality voice and fixed-mobile convergence (FMC).
"We believe that the high performance and inherent flexibility in a DSP is a perfect fit for driving the evolution of an all-IP carrier infrastructure," said Josef Alt, European business development manager with Texas Instruments' Communications Infrastructure Group. "By running higher-level protocol stacks and network layers in an IMS environment, we believe that we are redefining what a digital signal processor can do. TI's DSPs offer a greater breadth and depth of support for voice, data and video processing than other general purpose processors."
