European steel construction day successfully comes to an end

(PresseBox) (Aachen, ) "Steel Construction - Global Challenges for 2050" - Under this motto, nearly 200 representatives of European steel construction from 19 nations met in the Congress Hotel Potsdam between the 21 and 23 September. The hosts were the German Steel Construction Association (DSTV) and bauforumstahl e.V.. Dr. Volkmar Bergmann, Chairman of the Executive Board of the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork EKS/ ECCS/ CECM and the Managing Director of the German Steel Construction Association (DSTV) rated this year's convention a resounding success.

The two day congress held discussions around a central theme: the future of European infrastructure. Internationally renowned architects, planners and engineers reported on:

- Safety & Risk - Seismic Design
- Metropolis - Future European and Urban Infrastructures
- Structural Steel - Building the Future

Alongside the exhibition, various companies were accessible to visitors in the foyer of the congress hotel.

In the afternoon of the second day the traditional ECCS Award Ceremony was celebrated. Like every two years this year 15 outstanding European Projects built in steel got the 'ECCS European Steel Design Award 2011' and five 'ECCS European Architectural Student Awards 2011' were presented to students from different European universities.

At the gala dinner, the EKS Charles Massonnet Award was awarded to Professor Bernt Johansson from the Lulea University of Technology in Sweden. This prestigious award pays tribute to the outstanding achievements of exceptional scientists in the field of technical development in steel construction.
