Steingraeber deepens cooperation with China

Steingraeber & Söhne to sign a cooperation agreement with Pearl River in Beijing

Bayreuth, (PresseBox) - Pearl River's new factory in Beijing has been up and running since 2012. And that is where the heads of the two firms, Shi Shao Bin and Udo Schmidt-Steingraeber, met for the first time on September 13-14, 2012. Although the size and structure of the companies varies considerably - Pearl River is the largest piano manufacturer in the world - the two firms have enjoyed successful cooperation in the area of product development for several years. Thus, the KD 275 Kayserburg concert grand is largely produced by Steingraeber in Bayreuth. Steingraeber also optimizes smaller grands and several uprights at its traditional Bayreuth factory. All of these must meet Steingraeber's extremely high quality standards. For the first time, Steingraeber is now building KD 243 semi-concert grands for Pearl River in Bayreuth.

Meanwhile, Kayserburg Deutschland GmbH has been set up to handle the cooperation but there are no links whatsoever between the companies than single collaboration based on individual supply contracts. But one aspect of the collaboration will change in future, because Pearl River Beijing has offered Steingraeber & Söhne shares of their company. Steingraeber will thus become a partner in Pearl River of Beijing, providing consultation and assistance in product development for the company's new JING ZHU brand, a premium product line from the new Pearl River factory in Beijing. The plan is for the Bayreuth piano builder to offer on-site assistance in design, construction, training, and supervision, and to establish a separate production line for Jing Zhu grands and uprights. At the same time, Chinese and Bayreuth piano builders will jointly design the models. In much the same way as already happens with Kayserburg pianos, prototypes will be built in Bayreuth.

Cooperation with Pearl River in Guangzhou will continue alongside the new collaboration with Beijing. As an outward sign of this cooperation, Kayserburg Deutschland GmbH will move its base of operations from Olching to Bayreuth. Future Pearl River marketing campaigns will highlight the Steingraeber factory as the manufacturing site for Kayserburg uprights.

On the other hand, Steingraeber & Söhne Klaviermanufaktur KG will remain an independent, autonomous company in the hands of the Schmidt-Steingraeber family. Cooperation such as this represents a new business segment for Steingraeber. The Steingraeber Consulting Department has been in place since the mid-1990s and has already collaborated with various partners.

As always, STEINGRAEBER & SÖHNE's own grands and uprights will come solely from Bayreuth. Authentic Steingraeber instruments will be exclusively imported and sold throughout China by Pearl River in Guangzhou.
