SOLON SE expands its activities in French overseas departments

SOLON SE has teamed with its French distribution partner Soleil des Iles - Energie solaire, a subsidiary of Société de Négoce International (SNI) from Aixen- Provence specializing in photovoltaics and solar thermal energy, to tap the photovoltaics market in French overseas departments. Both partners are currently exhibiting at the 22nd Salon de la Maison from May 1 to 9, 2010, in Sainte-Clotilde, La Réunion, the island's largest building services trade fair. SOLON has already delivered the first components to SNI, which were built in a series of small industrial roofmounted systems in La Réunion as part of a 2 MWp module supply agreement for 2010. Founded in 1984, SNI sells construction and sanitary products. When selecting a photovoltaics partner, SNI deliberately chose the premium manufacturer SOLON since the solar modules used in the French overseas departments will be subject to extreme weather conditions like high humidity and winds.

The French market is one of SOLON's core markets and the thirdlargest European sales market for SOLON products after Germany and Italy. The French overseas departments are even more attractive for solar investments than mainland France since they offer considerable tax breaks for investments in solar power systems in addition to a defined feedin tariff for every kilowatt hour supplied to the grid. Roughly onefourth of all solar power systems installed in France in 2009 are located in overseas departments, and demand continues to grow.
