SOLON AG expands its executive team

Berlin-based SOLON AG, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of solar modules and photovoltaic systems, is increasing the number of directors on its main board on October 1, 2007. Dr. Gero Wiese, 45, is joining as chief operating officer (COO) and will be the third board member with responsibility for production, sales and IT alongside CEO Thomas Krupke and chief technical officer Dr. Lars Podlowski.

Dr. Wiese, whose doctorate is in mechanical engineering, has spent the past eleven years working for Gillette, initially as operations manager in Berlin and Boston, USA. For the past six years he has been based in Berlin as managing director of Gillette Deutschland GmbH. His professional career also includes positions as head of technology and quality for the Franco-German telecommunications group AEG/Matra and as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems.

Married with two children, Dr. Wiese studied mechanical engineering in Braunschweig, Germany and Waterloo, Canada. He gained a masters degree in business administration (MBA) in Fontainebleau, France prior to being awarded a PhD from Darmstadt University having combined study with his career.
