Thomas Blades appointed CEO of Oil and Gas Division of Siemens Energy

Erlangen, (PresseBox) - Thomas Blades (52) will take over responsibility as new CEO of the Siemens Energy Sectors Oil and Gas Division on January 1, 2009. Mr. Blades has held managerial posts in various companies in the oil and gas business previously. "It is a pleasure to welcome such an experienced person to the management team", said Wolfgang Dehen, CEO of the Energy Sector. "Thanks to his background, he can promote further expansion of our oil and gas business." Thomas Blades succeeds Dr. Frank Stieler (50), who successfully developed this business at Siemens as of 2001. Dr. Stieler is taking a new post as board member at Hochtief AG, as announced on December 8.

Thomas Blades, being an electrical engineer, started his career at Schlumberger, a leading global supplier to the oil and gas industry. During his time with Schlumberger, he spent several years in the Middle East. Following this, he successfully restructured and expanded several medium-sized companies in the US and Germany respectively. Blades is a British citizen and speaks fluent German on account of his family background.

The Oil & Gas Division of Siemens Energy is a leading supplier of the oil & gas industry. The portfolio includes solutions for power generation and distribution, compressors with electrical and mechanical drives, process and automation tech-nology, water management and integrated IT solutions. With a workforce of more than 16,200 the Division achieved revenues of EUR4 billion in fiscal 2008.

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas.
