Expanding Product Range and Improving Production Processes
Siemens Provides New Equipment for Long Product Rolling Mill of Alchevsk Iron & Steel Works, Ukraine
The mechanical equipment supplied by Siemens includes eleven Red Ring stands - two of which are universal stands - ten abrasive disk saws, bar profile monitoring system, bar marking machines and the transfer system. Apart from being responsible for the first filling of the new rolls, Siemens is supplying the equipment for stacking, bundling and weighing, systems for accessory fluids, operational change stands and cartridges as well as spare parts. The electrical equipment, from the medium- to low-voltage transformers including special cables to the basic and process automation systems, is also part of the project. In addition, Siemens is providing advisory services for the erection and commissioning phases of the rolling mill.
Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevskskij metallurgicheskij kombinat; AMK) is a subsidiary of the “Industrial Union of Donbass” (Industrialny Soyuz Donbassa, ISD) group. Located in the Lugansk area in the eastern part of the Ukraine, the company is currently engaged in a comprehensive expansion and modernization program, in the framework of which its annual steel production capacity will be increased from 3.4 to 7.6 million metric tons. Another aim of the modernization project is to reduce environmental pollution. In the course of this renewal of AMK's production facilities, Siemens Metals Technologies has already supplied two new converters including dedusting and desulphurization systems as well as two two-strand slab casters, ladle furnace and vacuum degassing.
