Drive-based Motion Control for Single-Axis Applications

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has expanded its scalable motion control system to include the Simotion D410, a controller for single-axis applications. The single-axis controller is particularly suitable for standalone machine modules in modular machine concepts. By integrating motion control and technology functions as well as PLC and drive control in one controller module, a complete machine module can be automated.

The Simotion D410 single-axis controller augments the Simotion D4x5 series of controllers, which is preferred for use in multi-axis applications. Simotion D410 can be used for single-axis applications such as winders, cross cutters or feeder units, or also in synchronized systems such as modular machine concepts.

The machine module automated with the D410 motion controller thus receives the guide value from a higher-level controller and synchronizes its axis to this guide value. Thanks to the modularization, the machine modules can be fully tested individually and added or removed during live operation, if required.

The new controller is available not only as the Simotion D410 DP version for operation with Profibus, but also as Simotion D410 PN for connection to Profinet. As many as four fast cam outputs or three probes can be implemented on the onboard inputs/outputs. The drive controller supports both servo control for high dynamics and vector control for maximum torque accuracy.

The Simotion D410 motion controller is specially designed for use with the Sinamics S120 PM340 power modules in the Blocksize design and can be plugged directly onto these. The power modules combine the function of feeding with the motor power supply in one device.
