Siemens receives order for Turkey's most ecofriendly gas-fired power plant
The plant's core component is a Siemens H-Class gas turbine, which is the world record holder in efficiency in combined-cycle operation since one and a half years. In addition, the Siemens scope of supply includes steam turbine and generator as well as the instrumentation and control system.
The power station will not only use fuel very efficiently, it will also be highly flexible. The plant is designed for 250 starts per year and capable of reacting very quickly to grid fluctuations as the output can be varied by more than 35 MW per minute. Flexi-bility is an important factor particularly in countries that intend to integrate a growing amount of renewable energy sources in their power mix. "Turkey is on a growth path. We are pleased that our pioneering technology will make a significant contribu-tion to a reliable, affordable and environmentally sound energy supply," says Hüseyin Gelis, CEO Siemens Turkey.
Turkey's energy demand is growing continuously. The annual increase rate of elec-tric energy consumption for many years has been 7 - 8 percent in average. The Turkish power plant market is developing dynamically and is subject to stiff competi-tion. It requires flexible, ecofriendly power generation plants which can be reliably and quickly started.
High efficiency combined cycle power plants are part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2012, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about €33 billion, making Siemens one of the world's largest suppliers of ecofriendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than 330 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.
