SGS Sponsors and Attends 5th Annual China Nuclear Power Congress 2011 and 9th China International Exhibition on Nuclear Power Industry 2011
China's nuclear power sector is expanding at a dizzying rate - 25 nuclear power stations are under construction, 13 in operation and recently the nuclear power development goal was moved from 70-75 million kilowatts by 2020 to a massive 86 million kilowatts. This vast new market requires massive investment and is expected to generate a very great amount of business - the nuclear power sector in China alone is thought to be worth about 189 billion US dollars, or 1.25 trillion RMB.
With China on its way to self-sufficiency when it comes to nuclear reactor design and construction, the need for an independent third party inspection and verification company becomes apparent. Nuclear power reactors require inspection at every step of the way, from the design to the implementation of construction plans. To that end, SGS Industrial Services is very pleased to both sponsor and attend the 5th Annual China Nuclear Power Congress and to attend the 9th Biennial China International Exhibition on the Nuclear Power Industry, with a view to offering its services for the nuclear sector and fully conveying the range and depth of its experience.
9th China International Exhibition on the Nuclear Power Industry is designed to bring together industry experts from across the globe, encourage business communications and interaction and reinforce international cooperation. That is why the exhibition, conceived in 1995, has been officially recognized by the Ministry of Commerce in China as a national event.
The exhibition is expected to present a full analysis of China's progress in the nuclear power sector, with an overview of planned and completed projects. In light of the 'Medium and Long-term Nuclear Power Development Program (2005-2020)' a great acceleration and expansion has taken place in the nuclear power sector, with 2-4 nuclear power units expected to be developed per year over the next ten years. Eight new nuclear power units are currently under construction, with 10 projects and 28 facilities approved for construction in 2009 alone. A massive increase in the capacity of China's nuclear power industry is to be expected and it is a very exciting time to be part of this industry.
The 5th Annual China Nuclear Power Congress is expected to analyze China's industrial policy, the technologies available for plant management and maintenance and also, to present progress reports on the state of nuclear power projects across China.
SGS Industrial Services is proud to have Gold Sponsorship of this very significant event, and is pleased to report that SGS experts, including Pascal Sutz, Vice President of Nuclear Services at SGS, will be presenting the services SGS offers in depth. The services which SGS will showcase at both events include Work Supervision, Non-Destructive Testing, Inspection, Radioprotection, Training, QHSE Audit and Certification, Environmental Analysis, Laboratory Testing and Equipment Testing. In addition, Pierre Grisey, expert of nuclear power at SGS, will speak during the SGS presentation at the Nuclear Power Congress to be held for delegates about the importance of third party services for the improvement of quality in the nuclear industry. The presentation will demonstrate how to manage the challenges the nuclear industry faces today and how to efficiently integrate third party services in order to guarantee the successful management and maintenance of nuclear power projects.
To ensure that a nuclear plant is run safely, verification of the design and implementation is of vital importance. In addition, it is essential that the nuclear plant is maintained properly so as to remain of service for its intended lifetime. Health and safety, cost-effectiveness and proper inspection and verification according to accepted international standards are all of paramount importance in the installation of a nuclear power plant. To that end, SGS is very keen to showcase the depth and range of its experience in the nuclear power sector and is very much looking forward to its attendance at this event.
