SGS Provides Updates on New Settlements of California Prop 65

Geneva, (PresseBox) - Proposition 65 (Prop 65) is the 'Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986', a ballot initiative passed overwhelmingly by California residents in 1986. Since its enactment, there have been numerous lawsuits which resulted in the reduction of carcinogenic and reproductive chemicals through reformulations of consumer products containing such chemicals (1).

California Proposition 65 Concludes Consent Agreement

Over the years, Prop 65 has concluded consent agreements in a number of consumer products such as bibs, ceramic ware and glassware, cosmetics, furniture, jewelry, luggage and accessories, personal carrying products, hand tools, car-charging products, rest mats, laundry detergents, sunglasses, table linens, watches, apparel, scrub sponges and squeegees (2).

In the fall of 2013, a number of Prop 65 settlements were reached for a variety of products, including, but not limited to, decorative pine picks, grip clips, phone cases and tablecloth protectors. Highlights of these settlements are summarized in Table 1 within the latest SafeGuards bulletin.
