SGS Issues First Certificates of Conformity under Russian Technical Regulation on Machinery and Equipment Safety

Geneva, (PresseBox) - At the end of September 2010, the Certification Body of SGS Vostok Limited, the Russian subsidiary of the SGS Group, began issuing the first Certificates of Conformity under the new Russian Technical Regulation on Machinery and Equipment Safety. Henceforth, SGS will ensure that machines and equipment fulfill the mandatory requirements set out in the regulations.

The Technical Regulation on Machinery and Equipment Safety were approved by the Government of the Russian Federation in Resolution No. 753 on September 15, 2009 and came into force on September 25, 2010. This document determines the minimum requirements regarding machinery and equipment safety during design, manufacture, installation, operation, storage, transportation, sale and disposal.

As an accredited Certification Body for Conformity Verification, SGS Vostok Limited has started issuing the first Certificates of Conformity under the Technical Regulation on Machinery and Equipment Safety for machinery and equipment entering the Russian market. With the Certificate of Conformity, SGS testifies to a machine's compliance to the requirements of the Technical Regulation and enables manufacturers to use the registered Mark of Conformity for their products.

In accordance with the procedure prescribed by the Technical Regulation, SGS issues Certificates of Conformity on the basis of sample tests, quality system verification or a production site audit, depending on the chosen conformity verification scheme.

According to Vladimir Ovcharov, Head of Product Certification and Industrial Safety at SGS Vostok Limited, "We draw the attention of all organizations that went through conformity verification procedure before September 25 to the fact that the declarations or certificates of conformity are valid till the end of their validity period, but only for machinery manufactured and commissioned before the Technical Regulation on Machinery Safety came into force.".

With the Certificates of Conformity under the Russian Technical Regulation on Machinery and Equipment Safety, SGS meets the high demand for certification services from manufacturers entering the Russian market.
