Die durchgehende Verwendung von Gleichstrom im Data Center macht Sinn. Verluste können massiv reduziert werden. Leistungsseitig hat die IEC mit der TS 62735-1 den Rahmen abgesteckt. Nun ist die Geräteseite an der Reihe. In einer Übergangsphase sollen AC und DC koexistieren.

Die Lebenszyklen der Versorgungsinfrastruktur (PDU) sind grundsätzlich länger als jene der zu versorgenden Geräte, welche durch die technologischen Weiterentwicklungen häufiger ausgetauscht werden. Unabhängig davon ist nun das Ziel, einen AC-/DC-Gerätestecker bereitzustellen, welcher sowohl den Betrieb des Gerätes an einer AC- wie auch an einer DC-Versorgung zulässt.
