Talks with the Republic of Srpska on energy collaboration

Meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska

Essen/Banja Luka, (PresseBox) - The Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and Dr. Gerd Jaeger, Member of the Executive Board of RWE Power AG, met today for talks in Banja Luka. The objective was to explore possible collaboration on energy projects between the Republic of Srpska, the Serbian entity of Bosnia Herzegovina, and RWE.

RWE, one of the largest energy suppliers in Europe, sees the Republic of Srpska and other countries in South-Eastern Europe as attractive growth markets. Apart from lignite-fired power generation and grid operation, discussions also centred on opportunities for collaboration in the area of hydropower.

Should an agreement be reached and the economic viability of the envisioned hydropower stations be demonstrated, the partners - the Republic of Srpska, RWE and the United Energy Group - could realise projects with a power capacity of over 1,000 megawatts.
Associated investments over the next ten years could be in the billion-euro range.

Prime Minister Dodik commented after the meeting: "We look forward to gaining a long-term partner in RWE. Particularly in the field of hydropower, our country offers some interesting potential." Dr. Jaeger added: "We have the necessary know-how and experience to make a significant contribution to the development of the power industry in the Republic of Srpska."
RWE and the Republic of Srpska plan to hold further talks.
