ROHM enters into marketing alliance with A. Menarini Diagnostics to commercialise the B-analyst micro-blood analysis system in Europe
Recent increases in the number of diabetes patients worldwide are driving the demand for micro-blood analysis systems, which provide instant results while minimising patient discomfort. The difficulty of using low-precision systems to verify improvements brought about through daily treatment makes a simple system with high measurement precision particularly desirable. In developing this high-precision micro-blood analysis system, launched in Japan in 2008, ROHM drew on micromachining technology cultivated in the course of its extensive LSI development experience and µTAS (Micro TAS) technology*2 accumulated over the past decade while developing bio-chips. The B-analyst micro-blood analysis system, which delivers a level of testing precision approaching that of conventional large testing systems, has earned high praise from clinics and other customers, driving steady sales growth. ROHM plans to follow up on the product’s European launch by progressively expanding sales channels to the Asian and North American markets, thereby bringing its micro-blood analysis system business to the global market.
The sales alliance with ROHM will allow Menarini Diagnostics to expand its significant range of analytical systems for the control and monitoring of Diabetes. Such a range includes self testing meters, continuous glucose monitors for professional use and high throughput laboratory systems. Furthermore the B-analyst will allow Menarini to expand its offer of important diagnostics tests in small laboratories and doctor’s offices.
*1 Sales region (19 countries)
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
*2 µTAS (Micro TAS)
Micro Total Analysis System. This system permits the efficient and rapid performance of a series of chemical manipulations through the buildup of various liquid devices on a chip that is several millimeters to several centimeters square.
