Rhenus opens its Hamburg-Harburg logistics centre: further expansion due this year
The three sheds newly constructed last year, which measure 31,000 square metres in total, each have 15 loading ramps and a loading point at ground level; they provide space for 43,500 pallets in all. It is possible to store products up to water hazard class 3 here. All the sheds are equipped with the latest fire prevention technology.
One shed area also has a separate and specially equipped zone with a gas warning and air circulation system. It is possible to store up to 1,300 pallets with inflammable liquids and solids or aerosols here.
“The process of ramping up the warehouse during the past few months has been very successful. We’re expecting a further increase in demand during the coming months. Particularly its proximity to the A1 motorway, the port of Hamburg, which is only 30 kilometres away, and the ports in Bremen is an important benefit at this site,” says Michael Brockhaus, a Member of the Rhenus Management Board, with real conviction. There are already plans to expand the logistics centre by an additional 21,000 square metres of covered storage space in two sheds by the end of the year; this is due to be opened in June 2017.
“The establishment of a distribution site geared towards international services, which has been taking place since the end of last year for a new customer from the lubricant sector, which is a global corporation, also offers other customers an excellent basis for improving their logistics. The expertise available at the site covers a broad spectrum and is therefore suitable for customers from almost any sector or branch of industry,” says Johannes Rohde, a member of the management team at Rhenus Warehousing Solutions Germany and manager of the northern region.
