SGI® UV Achieves Largest Certified Configuration for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
Red Hat and SGI raise the bar in reliable performance for mission-critical, large-scale computing environments
This certification highlights the benefits of the newest generation of Intel® processors and SGI’s high performance computing technology for customers with data-intensive workloads requiring outstanding performance in a high-density form factor with excellent power efficiency. Targeting the high-end supercomputing, large-scale database and data analytic environments, the combination of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SGI® UV 1000 paves the way for customers in the government, intelligence, and scientific communities to deliver more meaningful scientific and technical results. As we enter the next generation of computing, moving from petaflops to exaflops, Red Hat and SGI are enabling some of the industry’s most mission-critical and large-scale computing applications.
"Customers know when using Red Hat Certified Hardware their Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment will receive the best available support,” said Gunnar Hellekson, chief technology strategist, public sector, Red Hat, Inc. "Now certified by Red Hat, the SGI UV 1000 is an impressive server configuration that delivers the high performance and scalability our government and large, data-intensive enterprise customers demand.”
Through the Red Hat Hardware Certification Program, the SGI UV 1000 server with 1,280 cores and 8TB of memory is now certified to run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. In addition to validating compatibility, Red Hat hardware certification gives customers the confidence that this SGI server configuration is fully supported by Red Hat when running with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
"This certification proves that SGI UV servers can scale Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 to unprecedented levels to meet our customers’ large scale mission-critical requirements,” said Christian Tanasescu, vice president, software engineering at SGI. "The powerful combination of SGI and Red Hat gives customers the confidence that we can meet almost any of their technical computing needs. In addition, we expect certification efforts to continue with Red Hat to achieve even higher levels of scalability.”
Red Hat launched the Red Hat Hardware Certification program in 1999. Working with its hardware partners, Red Hat certified hardware solutions give customers the assurance that their hardware platforms have been fully tested and proven compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems. Red Hat has certified thousands of systems from hardware vendors worldwide. Utilizing Red Hat certified hardware gives customers the confidence that Red Hat and hardware manufacturers will support hardware deployed in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 operating system helps facilitate organizations’ transition to emerging data center models including virtualization and cloud computing. With support across the major hardware architectures, hypervisors and commercial Cloud providers, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 makes the transition between physical and different virtual environments in a predictable and secure manner. Tools and capabilities in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 operating system enable administrators to tailor the application environment to efficiently monitor and manage compute resources and security. IT departments that deploy Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 have opportunities to improve agility, lower costs and reduce complexity with innovative technologies spanning physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures.
