UV-LED Curing

Bethesda, (PresseBox) - With all the buzz surrounding UV-LED light sources, as well as a number of recent commercial successes, the timing couldn't be better for RadTech's Monday afternoon UV-LED curing session. The three-anda- half-hour session covers a number of complementary topics-from new raw materials development and formulation of inks and coatings optimized for LED cure, to field measurement and end uses ranging from digital printing to coating applications.

Because of the broad interest in UV-LED progress, this is being presented as an end-user session to allow the greatest participation by all RadTech attendees.

For those unfamiliar with LEDs, Jennifer Heathcote of Integration Technology will kick off the session with a primer on UV-LED basics. This will be followed by in-depth technical presentations on chemistry-related topics by DSM Desotech and Cytec Industries. Curing digital inks will be discussed by Lumen Dynamics and Heraeus. Phoseon Technology will explore curing coatings with UV-LED, and EIT will present advice on measuring narrow bandwidth UVLED light sources. The session will conclude with a panel discussion that will offer candid expert commentary on future developments and challenges to the further diffusion of UV-LED technology into other industries and UV-cure applications. Whether you are an industry supplier, formulator or end-user exploring UV-LED as an alternative to conventional UV processing, this session should provide new insights on the technology from various perspectives.

3-D Curing
The 3-D curing session will provide attendees with innovative approaches and some "out-of-the-box" discussions to curing large and complex parts with UV. Since UV curing is frequently limited by "line-of-sight" constraints, UV has already found wide acceptance for applications where parts are flat or used for simple shapes such as sheets of paper, rolls of plastic film, wood panels, DVDs or fiber optics.

But today UV is being done on complex assemblies and multiple parts at one time.

In this session, various curing approaches will be presented-from rotating parts and articulating lamps to curing with six-axis electronic robots. Attendees will also learn about a success story for medical devices cured in a highly reflective process chamber with fewer lamps-a method that can be easily adapted to other parts.

The focus of the session is on creative techniques that allow larger or more complex geometries to be uniformly cured with minimum equipment, setup time and cost that might otherwise make these applications technically or economically prohibitive. The companies presenting in the session include UV Robotics, American Ultraviolet, DDU Enterprises and EIT Inc. are all experts on the challenges of curing three-dimensional parts. Attendees are welcome to bring their own sample parts, drawings or photos to get expert advice on solving their own specific curing problems.
