PLCopen releases Part 5 and Part 6 of the Motion Control Specification

CA Zaltbommel, (PresseBox) - The suite of PLCopen Motion Control Specifications has been extended with the release of Part 5 and Part 6, adding new areas of usage. "I am very glad that this year we are able not only to release the Version 2.0 of the basic specification, but also to extend the suite of functionalities to new areas like homing procedures and fluid power ", says Eelco van der Wal, Managing Director of PLCopen. "With this, we show our long time commitment to motion control and provide the right functionalities to the users on all applicable levels."

Part 5 enables users to create their dedicated homing procedures by combining harmonized functionalities. "This is like a set of Lego building blocks, with which a machine builder can easily create its own dedicated homing procedure", continues Eelco van der Wal.

With the release of part 6 a new application area is added: fluid power. With this, the ease of use of the PLCopen Motion Control is also made available in an area where no harmonization in the development environment was applicable, e.g. hydraulics. Also, the merge in the software environments of electrical and hydraulic systems is now made possible, providing a harmonized look and feel. "This extension of the application area with fluid power, meaning in practice hydraulics, is showing that the ease of use of the PLCopen Motion Control is greatly appreciated by the users, even beyond the electrical drives", adds Eelco van der Wal.

The success of the PLCopen Motion Control started with the release of the first specification in November 2001. Feedback from both users and implementers resulted in an update in 2005, Version 1.1. Also in 2005 the first release of Part 2 - Extensions, was published. This year both parts were integrated in the Version 2.0, adding also new functionalities.

With these new specifications, the PLCopen Motion Control profile can be used in additional application areas, including areas where the ease-of-use provided is unknown until now.

The new specifications can be downloaded from our website www.PLCopen.org .
