The certification confirms that pixolo’s solution fully complies with all technical and security requirements for the digital creation, processing, and secure transmission of biometric ID photos. From May 1, 2025, ID photos for German identity cards and passports may only be submitted digitally and via certified systems. Printed paper photos are no longer accepted. The objective of this reform is to prevent manipulation, establish uniform standards, and further enhance the security of official identity documents.
pixolo engaged with the requirements of TR-03170 at a very early stage and was among the first providers to proactively enter into close dialogue with the relevant authorities, the BSI, and the accredited testing body TÜVIT. The technical implementation and preparation for certification required long-term planning, substantial investment, and close coordination across all stakeholders.
pixolo would like to express its sincere thanks to everyone involved at the BSI, TÜVIT, the advisory team at Konfidas, and to all pixolo colleagues who drove this complex project forward with exceptional commitment over an extended period of time. Special thanks also go to dm-drogerie markt and the teams at dmTECH. Their close, constructive, and long-standing collaboration was a key factor in establishing a highly successful digital ID photo service in Germany. In 2025 alone, several million people have already used this service at dm stores nationwide.
The certificate was formally presented by Nevena Rupp (BSI) und Sandro Amendola (BSI) and accepted on behalf of pixolo by Nicole Leus (Customer Success Manager, responsible for dm) and Dr. Adam Czajka (CTO, pixolo).
With this certification, pixolo further strengthens its position as a leading technology provider for secure, scalable, and compliant digital identity solutions.
