Andromeda auf Kollisionskurs

In zwei Milliarden Jahren wird die Andromedagalaxie mit unserer Milchstraße kollidieren. Ein Ereignis, bei dem unsere Sonne wohl auf einen galaktischen Randplatz katapultiert werden wird. Computersimulationen zeigen: Wenn sich Galaxien durchdringen, stoßen Gaswolken aufeinander und es entstehen elliptische Riesengalaxien aus verschmelzenden Spiralgalaxien. Wie verhalten sich 100 Millionen Teilchen im Computer und wie kann aus zwei Spiralen ein Rugbyball werden?

Ein Vortrag aus dem Programm der Sternwarte, die bis zur Sommerpause jeden Freitag ab 19 Uhr ihre Pforten öffnet und einen Blick durch das Teleskop in den gestirnten Himmel erlaubt.
