The IMO, which is the United Nations agency responsible for international maritime environmental and safety standards, has approved OTI Greentech's products ECOSOLUT 14 Marine and ECOSOLUT 24 Marine for use in the international shipping industry. This approval enables OTI's cleaning products to be immediately used in the 170 countries that are members of the United Nations. In independent trials the ECOSOLUT bio-degradable products achieved outstanding chemical tank cleaning results. With the approval for use in international shipping OTI Greentech will be able to expand its distribution network in the maritime sector.

"The approval of our products by the IMO is an important milestone for OTI Greentech", says Stephan Rind, chairman of the Swiss-based Cleantech company which was founded in 2006. "Thanks to this approval we can now sell into the maritime sector and expand our consumer base significantly." Guy Johnson, Director of L&I Maritime Ltd., a leading independent consultant firm to the shipping industry, who has conducted a wide range of tests on ECOSOLUT and other comparable cleaning products, points out: "ECOSOLUT 14 Marine represents a breakthrough in cleaning and environmental performance and has the potential to redefine shipping industry cleaning standards".

The IMO is an agency of the United Nations headquartered in London with 170 member states. The IMO regulates the international shipping sector with the main aim of setting safety and technical standards as well as preventing pollution of the oceans. The international convention for the prevention of water pollution by ships (MARPOL) of 1973 sets criteria for the cleaning of ships and the discharge of waste products. The approval of the OTI products confirms that these products are suitable for use for cleaning ship tanks. The waste product from the cleaning process does not present a threat to the environment and can be discharged into open water. This is an important economic factor for ship owners and operators.

Environmentally friendly cleaning of oil residues and chemical tanks

OTI Greentech is a Cleantech company which develops novel processes and products which enable the efficient cleaning and separation of oil residues. The ECOSOLUT products are already in use in tank and industrial cleaning, as well as in land or water remediation. A new area of use is the improved efficiency in recovering oil from so-called oil sands. In this regard, OTI is currently carrying out expansive tests with international oil producers in Canada.

Certified Innovation

OTI Greentech's patented products and technology were awarded a special recognition in 2011 when OTI Greentech was certified as a Cleantech Driver in the Waste Management sector by the German Cleantech Institute (DCTI).
