Top marks for OSRAM energy-saving lamps

Stiftung Warentest: March 2008

(PresseBox) (Regensburg, ) As the inventor of the world s first energy-saving lamp with integrated electronic control gear in 1985, OSRAM continues to set new quality standards for energy-saving lamps. 80 percent of the OSRAM energy-saving lamps tested were rated "good" in the latest investigation by Stiftung Warentest, the German consumer association. This is a result that no other manufacturer has achieved in this test. What s more, all the OSRAM energy-saving lamps continue to burn in the ongoing lifetime trials. Replacing just a single incandescent lamp with an OSRAM energy-saving lamp will save money and ease the burden on the environment. If you were to replace a 100 W light bulb for example with a 21 W OSRAM Dulux Superstar Globe you would save over 130 euros and almost 400 kg of CO2 over the life of the lamp.

The latest test results from "Stiftung Warentest" (test 3/2008) provide clear evidence. Buying OSRAM brand products is well worth it. Their long life more than makes up for the apparent benefit of choosing cheaper energy-saving lamps. And Stiftung Warentest has also laid to rest the myth that energy-saving lamps produce a cold light. All the OSRAM lamps in the test produced a warm-white light and are therefore ideal for replacing ordinary light bulbs and creating a warm and friendly atmosphere in the home.

The outright winner in the "Large E27 base, 20 and 21 W" category was the OSRAM Dulux Superstar Globe, which also gained very high marks for its switch-on time. OSRAM also gained first place and a rating of "good" among the dimmable energy-saving lamps with the OSRAM Dulux EL Dimmable. Stiftung Warentest tested lamps that had to have short switch-on times and also had to withstand frequent on/off switching, such as those in 2/3 stairwells or bathrooms, and once again recommended OSRAM Dulux Superstar Globe 21 W.

OSRAM did brilliantly not only in the product evaluations but also in the "Environment and Health" section, with all the OSRAM lamps achieving ratings of "very good" or "good". This section looked at factors such as energy consumption and mercury emissions compared with incandescent light bulbs of comparable brightness.

"We are very pleased with the results for our lamps from Stiftung Warentest. Once again this confirms the outstanding quality of our products, for which the name OSRAM has been synonymous for over 100 years", said Dr. Kurt Gerl, Chief Sales Officer at OSRAM. "OSRAM not only stands for the highest standards in quality of light and lamp life, it is one of very few manufacturers to offer energy-saving lamps with a life of 15 years. And in terms of production, we make use of particularly eco-friendly processes and achieve CO2 savings by using short transport routes - we produce energy-saving lamps for the European market predominantly in Europe for example. OSRAM takes a holistic approach - so the products are environmentally friendly in all respects."

OSRAM will be showcasing more new products at the Light & Building fair from April 6 to 11 in Frankfurt.
