Halogen Energy Savers help protect the environment and reduce costs
World premiere: The new OSRAM halogen energy-saving lamps
With such a wide range of products the lighting options are almost unlimited. In classic bulb, candle and reflector versions, with different wattages and with screw, pin or plug bases the Halogen Energy Savers are ideal for any building and virtually any light fitting. All the lamps are available in high voltage versions for operation directly on 230V, and in low-voltage versions for operating voltages of 6V, 12V and 24V, for which a transformer has to be used.
Significant energy and cost savings for consumers
The energy savings with the new Halogen Energy Savers and therefore the contribution to climate protection are enormous. The reduction in energy consumption translates into potential savings of up to 100 kilograms of CO2 for the lifetime regarding the OSRAM Haloline. For the OSRAM Classic A CL (42W) this means savings of up to 18 kilograms of CO2. This is the same amount of carbon dioxide that 5 trees respectively 1 tree can absorb in this time. With savings of as much as 34 euros per lamp regarding the OSRAM Haloline and more than 6 Euro for the OSRAM Classic A CL (42 W) the financial implications are certainly significant.
Potential energy savings from xenon technology and infrared coating
A large proportion of these energy savings are due to the technologies used. By using xenon as the filler gas there is a considerable reduction in the thermal losses of high voltage lamps. As the size of the gas atoms increases, the thermal conductivity of the filler gas decreases. By using the appropriate lamp filler gas the heat loss of the tungsten filament can be reduced so less electrical energy is needed to heat the filament. In addition, the use of xenon gas with its heavy atoms slows down the vaporization of the tungsten atoms from the filament. This prolongs the life of the halogen lamps.
In the case of low-voltage lamps, an infrared process is used to reflect the heat emitted by the filament back to the filament. This means that less electrical energy has to be supplied to the filament. Energy is saved without impairing the quality of the light. This IRC technology (Infra Red Coating) was developed by OSRAM and is based on special bulb geometry and a sophisticated coating process.
OSRAM is committed to environmental protection from production to disposal
It is not only by using the Halogen Energy Savers that consumers can make an active contribution to climate protection. A special production process also helps protect the environment. For example, only eco-friendly prematerials are used to manufacture the halogen lamps. The solder for all lamps with E27/14 bases has been replaced by high-quality lead-free solder. And the halogens present no danger because they are present in the filler gas (inert gas) in such extremely small concentrations. So even the breakage of one or several lamps simultaneously is not a risk to health or the environment.
Another important benefit of halogen energy-saving lamps is that they can simply be thrown out with normal household waste.
