OSRAM wins the German Sustainability Prize for energy efficient products
The new German Sustainability Prize recognises businesses that combine exemplary economic success with social responsibility and environmental protection, and act in a sustainable manner to increase business growth. "As one of the world's leading lighting manufacturers, an intelligent, responsible approach to the environment is not just a part of our firm's image, it is also the only way forward", explains Goetzeler. "Today energy efficient products make up over 60 percent of OSRAM's turnover and we want to increase this share to 80 percent within the next ten years."
The jury based its decision on the consistent use of sustainability management and high impact brand communication on sustainability issues. The far reaching initiative has the support of a number of stakeholders from associations, NGOs, businesses and various federal ministries, such as the Federal Environment Ministry, Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade, the German Council for Sustainable Development, the MARKENVERBAND, VDI Technology Centre and others. The top international management advisers A.T. Kearney analysed how far the value chain of the prizewinning firms fulfilled environmental, economical and social sustainability criteria. Around 350 firms entered the competition, many of which were international businesses and more than half of which were DAX 30 firms.
