"Spot on" for William Turner in the Bucerius Kunst Forum
OSRAM partners the exhibition Turner and the Elements in Hamburg
The connection between the works of William Turner and a light manufacturer like Osram is clear, for light effects and unique light moods play a fundamental part in Turner's paintings. What's more, Osram has a traditional commitment to art, which it has intensified since 2001 by promoting young artists and building up its own art collection. Seven Screens is a lighting art project by Osram: seven ultramodern LED light pillars create an impressive platform for lighting art in the public area immediately outside the company headquarters in Munich. Osram will also "cast the right light" on works of art in the municipal gallery in Munich's Lenbachhaus. In conjunction with the gallery's conversion and modernisation through the office Foster + Partners, commissioned by the city of Munich (building department of the municipal administration), Osram will arrange the equipment of the gallery "Partnering the JMW Turner exhibition in Hamburg is a special honour for us, with our keen appreciation of art. Supporting exhibitions and artists is a matter of importance to us and a firm part of our social commitment," explains Martin Goetzeler, Chief Operating Officer at Osram. "Turner used light as an element of decisive effect in his natural landscapes, thus creating a subjective impression in the observer. We naturally find this fascinating, for the medium light is the focus of our attention every single day as we seek to improve people's well-being and quality of life with the aid of light."
OSRAM (Munich) belongs to the Industry Sector of Siemens and is one of the two leading light manufacturers in the world. In the 2010 financial year, it achieved a turnover of €4.7 billion. OSRAM is a high-tech company in the lighting sector and 70 percent of sales come from energy-efficient products. The company, which is very much internationally oriented, has more than 40,000 employees worldwide, supplying customers in around 150 countries worldwide from its 46 production sites in 17 countries (30 September). www.osram.com
