Der von BEA Systems vorangetriebene Java Specific Request (JSR) 181 hat den Status "Proposed Final Draft" innerhalb des Java Community Process (JCP) erreicht, einer Standardisierungsorganisation für die gemeinsame Entwicklung von Java-Spezifikationen. JSR 181 (Web Services Metadata for the Java Platform) bietet eine Syntax für Web Services, die sich einfach von Entwicklungstools managen lässt. Die Spezifikation unterstützt Softwareentwickler dabei, schnell Web Services auf Basis von Java zu erstellen und zu implementieren. Dadurch werden Unternehmensanwendungen kostengünstiger und weniger komplex.
