Growing interest and lively exchange of experiences underline the increasing importance of digital security at the 2nd Signature Conference in Berlin

On April 15 more than 200 experts experienced in politics, economy and administration discussed about the management and security of electronic identities, signatures and ID documents regarding technical, organizational and legal aspects. The great interest of the participants from all federal states in the active exchange of experiences not only emphasizes the growing importance of digital security, it also reflects the topic's conciseness.

The 2nd Signature Conference was supported by OPENLiMiT and other companies like Fujitsu Siemens, Microsoft, Symantec and the Bundesdruckerei (Federal Printing Office). During the conference descriptions of the ePA strategy of the Federal Government were given, challenges in the identity management were shown and new solutions concerning a secure and user-centered application were presented. In the morning the Secure eldentity-Labor, serving as a platform and 'showcase' for modern identity management, was established in order to intensify the mutual engagement. It supports both economy and administration through providing a process and service oriented infrastructure.

The second part of the conference focused on the topic eCard-API. In addition to the status report concerning the strategy of the Federal Government, the interoperability of the eCard as significant economic factor was given special emphasis during a following statement. As the first company in Germany, OPENLiMiT applied for the certification of the eCard-API-compliant Middleware component that is used for the application of the qualified electronic signature and other security processes when utilizing smartcards. In addition, OPENLiMiT supports the annotation of the eCard-API-Frameworks as acknowledged expert. Together with several renowned companies and institutions OPENLiMiT is working on the further development of the eCard-API standard evolved by the Federal Office for Information Security. In this context the topic long-term archiving was introduced which is gaining more and more importance due to far-reaching statutory provisions and a rapidly growing archival volume.

Finally two practical examples underlined the successful application of digital signatures within the civil status and E-procurement surrounding.
