Nokia Siemens Networks continues to execute on its strategy of building the industry's most innovative and cost-effective WiMAX platform based on a flat architecture so operators can deploy the most advanced infrastructure available. The company has utilized its innovative Flexi base station platform - the newest and most advanced for WiMAX - to foster a flat network architecture that will yield significant savings in operational and capital expenditures and energy consumption.

As it works toward manufacturing and deployment goals for year-end 2008 and 2009 launch periods, Nokia Siemens Networks is nearing certification and interoperability milestones. The WiMAX Forum certification process for both the 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz profiles of the industry-leading Flexi WiMAX Base Station is under way.

Nokia Siemens Networks has over 20 WiMAX references including fixed and mobile WiMAX and is a partner of the world's largest WiMAX operators. The most recent new mobile WiMAX customers have been secured in the past two months. Additionally, the company also expects its first mobile WiMAX customers to start commercial operations within this year.

To ensure an optimal user experience from both networks and devices, the company has performed interoperability (IOT) testing with a significant number of major terminal and chipset vendors for 2.5 GHz and also is testing with 3.5 GHz terminals. In network interoperability testing, Nokia Siemens Networks is working to ensure radio network interoperability with several WiMAX core network infrastructure vendors.

"We have a clear strategy to produce the industry's most advanced, cost-efficient solution and are confident in our ability to deliver the most comprehensive solution that will monetize mobile WiMAX for operators," said Markku Hollström, Head of Wireless Broadband, Radio Access, Nokia Siemens Networks. "Nokia Siemens Networks has prioritized interoperable, standards-based implementation and multivendor interworking of its ASN gateways, IP core and Authentication, Authorization and Accounting solutions to support operators' current equipment and for protecting their future investments. The Nokia Siemens Networks ASN gateway is the definitive leader in terms of performance and volume, as well as openness in network interfaces, and our One-AAA has a proven track record for providing flexible, carrier-grade performance."

In addition to a cutting-edge radio access platform, Nokia Siemens Networks' WiMAX strategy encompasses a holistic approach to the user service experience and service management, which will enable operators to strengthen customer relationships through subscriber data management, quality of service, device management and charging and billing, among many other core components. This strategy recognizes that monetizing mobile WiMAX for operators goes beyond applications, and that the value is in the network's ability to create an exceptional user service experience.

For example, earlier this year Sprint selected the Nokia Siemens Networks' Subscriber Data Management solution for the XOHM WiMAX Broadband Network, enabling the operator to offer its customers a higher level of personalized broadband services.

Nokia Siemens Networks is exhibiting at WiMAX World in Chicago, Oct 1 - 2. For more information, visit Booth 401.

Nokia Siemens Networks solutions with flat architecture like Mobile WiMAX, Internet-HSPA and LTE, enable operators to increase the efficiency of the mobile broadband networks, to cope with data explosion by lowering cost per gigabyte and to effectively serve their subscribers' needs. - making Nokia Siemens Networks the only true multi-radio company for mobile broadband building on a scalable flat network design.
