WAEC Boosts Its In-House Print Finishing

Ostfildern-Kemnat, (PresseBox) - The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), which specializes in the printing of examination papers, is investing in the Primera, its first Muller Martini saddle stitcher, at its printing plant in the Ghanaian capital of Accra.

WAEC exclusively prints examination papers in Accra for schools in Ghana and Liberia, totaling over 10 million copies per year. It now plans to extend its activities in that segment to Gambia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, which are likewise member countries of the WAEC. WAEC is therefore now also boosting its in-house print finishing after installing a range of Heidelberg printing presses.

Sam Nii Nmai Ollennu, Head of National Office, explains that there were two key reasons for investing in the Primera as the first Muller Martini solution at WAEC. “First, we wanted a machine that was both robust and easy to operate. Second, since we work in the field of security printing, we need a reliable system with optimal quality checks. It’s imperative that all the examination papers we supply to schools are always complete and stitched according to the right sequence of signatures.”

The Primera will be installed in November. Full commissioning of the machine is scheduled to take place over Christmas.
