The well-known principle of bats, using ultrasonic detection, Müller Industrie-Elektronik has implemented in the newly developed sensor MHUS.

As a complement to the product group "level measuring instruments", the ultrasonic sensor was put to the proven level transmitter MHLS for level detection of liquids, principle float tube with sensor switch contacts.

This is designed to fill level detection of liquids and particularly non-liquid bulk materials. It works based on the delay measurement of ultrasound in the air and is used to determine the distance from the fill mass and the positioning of objects. An ultrasonic converter works in the sensor for transmitting and receiving. In a special cycle, encoded ultrasonic signals are sent. After being reflected by the target, the signals are received by the sensor again and are decoded. Then, the determined signal propagation is converted temperature-counterbalanced into distance information. During the measuring process, the sensors generate a high sound intensity which optimizes the measuring exactness and guarantees sure recognising of small objects as well.

The MHUS is offered in two versions for measuring area captures from 100 up to 600mm and 300 up to 2500mm. The electrical connection is made at a three-wire circuit, supply 15 up to 45 VDC at 4 up to 20 mA output with HART protocol, different transmitter configurations and optionally system integrations like PROFIBUS, Modbus, EtherCAT and CANopen. Programming takes place via buttons and/or software.

The resistant die-cast aluminum housing can be aligned as service-friendly feature turned through 360° and the display through 330° adjustable to the aimed monitoring position. Protective class IP 65 is achieved by the complete vacuum potting of the sensor in the PVC probe pipe.

In addition to the level measurement of bulk materials and liquids in silos and tanks the MHUS is applicable for a wide range of different tasks. It can be used for distance measurements of moving machine parts, for the capturing and counting of moving objects and for the presence and position control of objects. Therefore, the application is possible in the whole area of the industry, in the cooperative storing, building material industry and agriculture.

Innovative new developments in 2009 for the Müller-IE series of HeavyDuty instruments

From Müller Industrie-Elektronik two years ago presented product family in the mood of the robust HeavyDuty field instruments for the application under extremely rough conditions has got several new members.

For measuring area pressure in addition to the successfully on the market established differential pressure transmitters MHDS the development of pressure transmitter MHPS for the detection of overpressure and absolute pressures completed.

For the task of level measurement, two new developments were made. Besides the proven Level Transmitter MHLS for non-aggressive liquids, principle float tube with sensors to switch contacts, now there is available, on the one hand, the Niveau transmitter MHNS, principle overpressure measurement of liquid tank content via immersion probe and on the other hand the ultrasonic sensor, principle distance measurement by sonic delay determination, fill level detection also of bulk materials.

In the area of measuring technology of room climate circumstances, the humidity sensor MHHS has been put beside the current sensor MHFS now as an innovative new development. This is available in different designs, as a compact device, with cable outlet and pluggable.

In the sector temperature measuring technology, there were, like at all new developments and advancements in the HeavyDuty-product family, customer-useful and service-useful advancements. Thus, beside the HART protocol between different transmitter configurations, now also optionally the system integrations over PROFIBUS, Modbus, EtherCAT and CANopen can be chosen, and two (switching points) electrical limit contacts were integrated. The programming is carried out by keys and/or software.

All device styles correspond with protection class IP 65. Approvals according to ATEX and EX FM qualifications for North America are in preparation.

Thus, the product family of the HeavyDuty-Series meanwhile encloses nine innovative products for five different physical measurands. The areas of pressure, level, temperature, flow and humidity are covered.
