MTU Maintenance Hannover celebrates 5,000th engine shop visit

At the moment, MTU Maintenance Hannover has two good reasons to celebrate: In the 30th year of its existence, the company just maintained the 5,000th engine visiting its shop, a CFM56-7 off the wing of a Boeing 737-800 from TUIfly airline's fleet. After repair and overhaul, the engine was now returned to its owner. In a small celebration, it was handed over to Claus Sülflow, TUIfly's Director Technical Services.

"We are delighted to celebrate this 5,000 shop visit, and all the more so to celebrate it with a very special customer. The first engine we received in December 1981 came from that customer, former Hapag-Lloyd Flug. Almost 30 years later, we're happy to again celebrate a major milestone with this airline," explained Dr. Uwe Blöcker, President and CEO of MTU Maintenance Hannover. Hapag-Lloyd Flug, which today operates under the brand name of TUIfly, was the first name on the Langenhagen-based MTU shop's customer list.

"MTU and Hapag-Lloyd Flug have been cooperating on a solid partnership basis for many years now, and the colleagues from the two companies work together in a genuine spirit of friendship and mutual support," lauded Friedrich Keppler, Managing Director of TUIfly. "That's an asset especially in urgent situations that call for fast and flexible response."

Langenhagen-based MTU Maintenance Hannover, an affiliate of MTU Aero Engines, is the centerpiece of the MTU Maintenance group. The company supports engines in the medium and upper thrust ranges, among them the General Electric CF6-50 und CF6-80C2, the Pratt & Whitney PW2000, the International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500 and the CFM International CFM56. Its new test cell accommodates powerplants of up to 150,000 pounds of thrust.
