Die primär getakteten DC/DC-Wandler PCMDS80 von MTM Power wurden speziell für Anwendungen in der Fahrzeug- und Bahntechnik, aber auch für den Einsatz in Applikationen der Industrie und Telekommunikation entwickelt. Sie liefern eine Ausgangsleistung von 80 W und arbeiten nach dem Eintaktprinzip. Hierbei wird die Eingangsgleichspannung durch einen Transistor mit einer Frequenz von ca. 50 kHz zerhackt. Mit Hilfe eines Transformators und einer sekundärseitigen Längsdrossel wird eine galvanisch getrennte Ausgangsspannung (12 V; 13,8 V; 24 V; 27,6 V oder 48 V) erzeugt, die durch eine Pulsweitenmodulation nach dem "Current Mode"-Prinzip geregelt wird.
