CeBIT 2008: Sagem Orga showcases security technology for citizens and government
The issues of identity cards, cash and signatures are everyday matters for citizens. Technological developments are opening up new possibilities: Business transactions can be handled electronically, payments made by contactless means, and documents and data stored on tiny chips. However, the Internet does not yet offer the same level of security as the physical world. The increasing digitization of communications and the fact that people travel more mean that we face new problems that can be solved reliably only with biometric systems or smart card technology.
At CeBIT, Sagem Orga will demonstrate how the protection of personal identities - for electronic documents, legal security of electronically transacted business or personal data - can be ensured. One example relates to the electronic ID card that is to be rolled out in 2009 as part of the German government's eCard strategy. It will have a digital passport photo and fingerprint as well as a chip for storing ID data and a PIN code. As a result, citizens will be able to prove their identity in the real world and virtual spaces alike - with Sagem Orga's high-security technology ensuring user-friendliness and protection of sensitive data.
Security technology is also crucial in electronic payment. Sagem Orga will demonstrate contactless means of payment at CeBIT 2008 with a real-world test.
Another key element in the German government's security strategy is the electronic health card. Sagem Orga is one of the driving partners in this project: The company was the first to ship and introduce in test regions a card complying fully with current and future specifications, and it has already received a first major order for 8.5 million cards from the health insurer Techniker Krankenkasse. At CeBIT 2008, Sagem Orga will give visitors the chance to try out a health card in actual operation.
Overview of the solutions and products:
- Electronic health card in live operation
- Electronic health card terminals
- Paying by mobile phone
