Mocon/Lippke Offers Global Marketplace Three New Package Testing Instruments At Interpack

MOCON, Inc. (NASDAQ: MOCO) and Paul Lippke Handels-GmbH, its European subsidiary, will be exhibiting three new package testing instruments at Interpack, Düsseldorf, Germany.

The MOCON brand is known globally as the gold standard in package testing instrumentation. The company's latest introductions include, the OpTech® - O2 Platinum analyzer and two combination units-the MultiCheck(TM) 300 and the MultiCheck(TM) 400.

The OpTech®- O2 Platinum analyzer, which uses platinum fluorescent material to measure oxygen (O2) transmission rates, is now available with optional film cells. This capability makes MOCON instrumentation the first to accurately measure perforated flexible packaging structures, as well as high-barrier alternatives. (Micro-perforated materials have become more prevalent recently-particularly for fresh vegetable applications which need to respirate for optimum shelf life.)

The optional film cells come in two sizes-50 cm2 (12 cc) and 100 cm2 (500 cc). The cell's sensor responds to the concentration of oxygen. As such, the smaller cell accommodates high-barrier structures and the larger cell is ideal for perforated materials. Typical applications for these flexible packaging structures include food, pharmaceutical and medical disposables where barrier and other key performance attributes are critical to reaching shelf life goals.

MOCON is also introducing two different "all in one" testing systems which significantly impact time, labor and samples needed to conduct individual testing.

"As the global gold-standard leader in instrumentation technology, we are always looking for ways we can positively impact our customers' productivity. These new combination units will significantly reduce testing time, while providing the same accurate results," said Franz Sturm, managing director, Lippke.

The MultiCheck(TM) 300 measures O2 headspace coupled with leak detection and seal strength. MOCON has married two separate technologies-its Lippke® 4500 (leak detection/seal strength) and its hand-held Pac Check® 302, O2 headspace analyzer to create the MultiCheck(TM) 300 combination unit.

The MultiCheck(TM) 400 includes all of the same components, but also measures one-way degassing valve performance via MOCON's new Valve Test Unit(TM) (VTU). The unit is ideally suited for flexible package applications which require pressure relief.

In addition to being integrated into the MultiCheck(TM) 400, the VTU is also available as an accessory to the Lippke® 4000 series, for those operations which only wish to conduct valve testing.

"By performing all of the tests on one package, the MultiCheck(TM) systems provide the first true profile of the condition of a single package vs. trying to get an overall perspective by looking at results from four different samples," said Sturm.
