Wet-cleaning system: Perfect laundry service for old people's homes

One-stop shopping for laundry technology, cleaning products and finishing apparatus

Nowadays, residents in old people's homes wear quality clothing which they hand in for washing: Blazers, silk blouses or angora pullovers labelled as 'nonwashable'. Often such items are taken to dry cleaners where they are washed in solvents. The disadvantage: Additional costs and it takes several days before the clothes are returned. A more economic and faster solution for inhouse laundries in old people's homes is the Miele WetCare aqueous cleaning system: Washing machines, tumble dryers, dispensing systems and finishing equipment all from the same supplier. Modern laundry technology ensures not only optimum care but also a pleasant fragrance on laundered textiles.

Miele presented the first wetcleaning system in 1991. Since then, wet cleaning has been adopted by many laundries and drycleaning businesses. Miele's aqueouswash laundry machines are now in their third generation.

Washerextractors and tumble dryers feature the patented Miele honeycomb drum. Its hexagonal sections and sculptured design protects textiles during washing at low water levels and in the drying processes in which a particularly gentle tumble rhythm applies. The freely programmable Profitronic M controls allow programme customisation to suit all types of garments. The special programmes necessary for wet cleaning are already on board machines ex works.

Additionally, the new laundry machines are considerably more economic than their predecessors. This was proven in a recent inhouse comparison in which, among others, a new 16 kg washerextractor (PW 6161) and an older 19 kg model were tested. Although the 'WetCare' aqueous wash system is designed for half of the respective nominal loads, both machines were filled with 9.5 kg of laundry. The result: Compared with the previous model, energy consumption was halved, water consumption reduced by 30% and programme durations cut by 17%.

Pleasant fragrance and improved stain removal

Compared with the traditional drycleaning approach, wet cleaning offers clear benefits, including, for example, simpler and better removal of stains containing proteins. But most of all, it is the fresh and pleasant smell of textiles washed in water that makes many consumers prefer the WetClean system to dry cleaning. Solvents, detergency enhancers and cooling water are not necessary and no sludge or slurry accumulates. Wet cleaning is therefore a sensible alternative for allergy sufferers. Not having to comply with the legislation which applies to dry cleaners when only using a wet cleaning system also presents a considerable advantage.

Comprehensive accessories and service

Not only washerextractors and tumble dryers are available from Miele, but also all accessories required for wet cleaning. These include detergents, dispensing systems and finishing equipment such as ironing presses and dummies. Miele's comprehensive service rounds off the wet cleaning system: Training courses for laundry staff working in old people's homes are also available. On request, Miele's field representatives can carry out feasibility studies for inhouse laundries and propose a finance plan or tailor leasing arrangements to suit customers' needs.

Once a laundry has been set up, a maintenance and service contract ensures that all machines are serviced once a year. The service contract also includes the replacement of componentry free of charge where necessary. In the event of a technical fault, a Miele technician is always on hand to help out: nearly 100 aftersales staff all over Germany guarantee laundry machine uptime.

Photo Perfectly cleaned and ironed clothes ensure the feelgood factor. To ensure that garments retain their shape and colour for a long time, Miele offers the WetCare aqueous cleaning system: Washerextractors and tumble dryers with special programmes, dispensing equipment and finishing apparatus all from a single supplier. Thanks to modern laundry technology, items which in the past could not be washed in water no longer have to be dry cleaned. The WetCare system is perfectly suited to inhouse laundries in retirement homes wanting to offer their residents a comprehensive range of services.
