New from Miele: CSSD planning in 3D with virtual walkthrough

Professional software provides realistic impressions before construction work starts

(PresseBox) (Gütersloh, ) A new or refurbished CSSD starts with a set of drawings. The disadvantage of this conventional approach, though, is that it does not provide a realistic enough impression of the new facilities. Are they bright enough or is there a lack of daylight? Is there enough room to accommodate all the necessary processes? Issues such as these are now addressed by the commercial planning software used by Miele Professional. 3D representations of a completed CSSD are now available long before construction work even commences. Clients can take a virtual tour, walking them through proposed facilities.

This specialist software is compatible with all the file formats used by architects and specialist planners. With this tool, Miele sales representatives can present each stage of planning to the decision makers in hospitals: These are then able to envisage the impact of walls and other obstacles and can precisely position machines and equipment to make the most economical and ergonomic use of the remaining space (for example for packing tables, transport areas, etc.). Floor coverings, finished wall surfaces, fabrics and tiles are presented in stunning reality thanks to 3D animations.

In Germany, several new CSSD units have been planned in 3D, of which some are already up and running. These include the Bayreuth Clinic, where the CSSD was handed over at the end of October 2012: Here, Miele not only assumed responsibility for the entire planning and refurbishing but even oversaw the dismantling of the old medical installations including furniture. After creating several layouts using the 3D software, the new concept was soon determined: The 725-bed hospital reprocesses an annual 40,000 sterile supply units per annum working a two-shift day, relying on 5 large-chamber decontamination units from the latest series together with 3 large steam sterilisers. The autoclaves are all equipped with outfeed conveyors to enable finished loads to be removed immediately on completion - this, together with easily accessible packing tables and electrically operated passthroughs, simplifies work considerably. Efficiency is of the essence: Surgical instruments are regularly delivered after use from 11 operating theatres as the Bayreuth Clinic is the only supraregional, tertiary-care referral centre in Upper Franconia, famous for its cardiac and vascular surgery and its ophthalmology.

The new planning software is gaining acceptance on an international scale: At many Miele subsidiaries in Europe and overseas, the software is deployed in planning complex facilities and processes.
