New entry in System4Med range: Miele heat-seal units for CSSD

Ready for use in next to no time, robust and safe

(PresseBox) (Gütersloh, ) Miele Professional is set to complement its System4Med lineup for CSSD applications with the inclusion of rotary sealers. These new units apply heat to reliably seal instruments in pouches after washing and disinfection and before sterilisation to ensure sterile storage afterwards. These heat-seal units are due for launch in 2013 and support the concept of validatable packaging processes required by the DIN EN ISO 11607 standard.

The new models, the PRS 300 and PRS 400, are classified as rotary sealers: An instrument in an unsealed pouch or reel pouching material is introduced on one side of the unit and automatically passes the heaters to come out sealed on the opposite side. The seam is securely welded by applying a defined contact pressure. As the packaged instruments do not need to be held during the process, several pouches can be passed through one after the other, speeding up the process and saving valuable time. And to prevent heavier instruments from being held back by their own weight and distorting the pouches, Miele also offers a matching roller conveyer to ensure that instruments glide along effortlessly.

The rotary sealers from Miele are very robust and reliable, reducing the need for servicing and maintenance to an absolute minimum. These new products excel in terms of their short heat-up times and are ready for use at a moment's notice. Nevertheless, energy consumption is very low. As the safety of healthcare staff and patients was high on the agenda during the equipment development process, the machine's controls monitor critical parameters such as seam contact pressure and temperature continuously. In the event that prescribed parameters are not met, the machine immediately issues an error message.

Important information such as the current temperature is shown on model PRS 400 in a two-line digital display. Here, too, the name of the user is also displayed if previously registered using the optional barcode scanner. Assignment to individuals enables gap-free documentation of the entire reprocessing cycle. As required, data can be relayed via interfaces to batch documentation systems.

Alongside validation and annual revalidation focussing on the integrity of the welded seam, the leak-proof properties of the weld must also be checked daily before the commencement of work. To assist with such routine tests, Miele offers a range of aids and indicators which are simple to use in the context of day-to-day work. Validation is performed by specially trained medical device engineers from Miele Professional.
