Attraction of electrical home appliances at IFA

Separate, new platform at IFA 2008 in Berlin for the home appliance industry

Berlin, (PresseBox) - The leading manufacturers of electrical home appliances will now be integrated in the IFA with a major display of their own. The IFA 2008 is being expanded to include a new international trade show to be known as HOME APPLIANCES @ IFA. This was announced today by the consumer and communication electronics organisation gfu (Gesellschaft für Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationselektronik mbH), the organisers of the IFA, the Home Appliance Industry Associations within the electrical and electronics industry federation ZVEI (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e. V.) and Messe Berlin.

As Dr. Reinhard Zinkann, spokesman for the Home Appliance Associations within the ZVEI and managing partner of Miele & Cie. KG, explained: “Starting in 2008 the manufacturers of home appliances will be taking part regularly in the IFA, which is now an annual event.“ The intention is to set aside 30,000 square metres of display space in Halls 1.1 – 6.1 on the Berlin Exhibition Site exclusively for the manufacturers of brand name products.

According to Dr. Rainer Hecker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the gfu and Chairman of the Board of Loewe AG, there were some compelling reasons for this step: “Manufacturers and dealers alike are aware that our markets are becoming increasing interlinked. We are delighted with the decision by the electrical home appliance industry and see this as an acknowledgement of the achievements of the CE industry and of the positive development of the IFA. Those involved will shortly be getting together to work out and present details of this collaboration.”

With more than 1,200 exhibitors and an attendance of 235,000 in 2007 the IFA has become established as the central, annual trade show for consumer electronics for the European trade. Ditmar Krusenbaum, Deputy Chairman of the Industry Association for Large Electrical Home Appliances within the ZVEI and a member of the board of BSH Bosch and Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH: “The successful IFA concept provides an excellent basis for jointly setting up a leading international platform. We will be presenting dealers and the public with a very wide range of brand name products of outstanding quality in Berlin.”

The decision has also been extensively welcomed by dealers. The leading European Retailer groups approve of the inclusion of electrical home appliances in the IFA. As Oliver Haubrich, General Manager of the largest European buying group, ElectronicPartner, points out: “In particular this new, combined display by these two industries at this leading international trade show also offers benefits for trade visitors. It gives the IFA an added dimension for our members. We shall continue our traditionally close partnership with the IFA and participation will be made even more attractive, especially for smaller dealers. This year our live EP cookery show demonstrated that an integrated presentation of consumer electronics and white goods meets with an outstanding response on the part of visitors to the IFA.”

Hans-Joachim Kamp, Chairman of the Consumer Electronics Industry Association within the ZVEI and a member of the Supervisory Board of the gfu: “We are delighted with this move. At the same time we shall continue to actively promote the IFA as a leading international trade show for the CE industry.” As the CEO of Philips Germany, Austria and Switzerland also points out, his own company has already merged its own consumer electronics and electrical home appliance divisions.

Dr. Christian Göke, COO of Messe Berlin with responsibility for managing the IFA, summed up by saying: “This new development, with the inclusion of internationally well known brand names from the manufacturers of electrical home appliances, will give an additional boost to Berlin as an international trade show venue and to the IFA as a whole. This will benefit all the brand names attending the IFA.”
