The EU Commission, to which Oettinger belongs, recommended the internationally standardised Type 2 charging couplers developed by Mennekes as the common standard for the whole of Europe at the beginning of this year. This proposal, being part of a draft bill for a far-reaching EU fuel strategy, creates greater security for providers and operators of electric mobility solutions as well as for the consumer. Only a unified connection technique allows people to recharge battery packs anywhere and ensures our electric mobility internationally. From the manufacturer's point of view, the use of a common standard will allow cost-efficient solutions. Both of these factors are significant for pushing forward the breakthrough of electric mobility.

The managing partner of the company, Walter Mennekes, showed Oettinger the wide product range of charging stations for the European market in which the Type 2 charging couplers recommended by the EU Commission are used. Walter Mennekes: "The EU Commission's recommendation to use the Type 2 charging plug developed by us is a great leap forward for eMobility in Europe. For Mennekes it is a milestone in the 78-year success story of our family company."

Guenther Oettinger was impressed by the integrated approach of the Mennekes' development and by the variety of the charging systems for each of the different fields of application based on it. Mennekes' charging couplers are now in operation at over 10,000 charging spots. The current products have built on the experience gained in many pilot projects. Together with electric utilities and car manufacturers, Mennekes has developed solutions that make 'filling up' electric vehicles simple, easy and secure.
