Production record for MAN Latin America's star truck

50,000 Constellation trucks produced

Munich, (PresseBox) - MAN Latin America has set a new record: 50,000 heavy-duty VW Constellation trucks have been manufactured in just under four years. The Constellation is currently offered in 14 different models, ranging from 13 through 45 tons. More than 22,000 Constellations were sold in 2008. This figure includes 7,000 in the 24.250 model, making it the best-selling truck in Brazil. "This market leadership is undoubtedly testament to the quality of our products," said Roberto Cortes, President of MAN Latin America.

The Constellation is mainly sold in Brazil but has also been sold in other markets in Latin America and Africa. Investments in the production line at the Resende (Brazil) plant and in establishing the Constellation brand totaled €180 million between 2002 and 2007.

The Constellation is produced by MAN Latin America in Resende in the so called "Consórcio Modular". In this pioneering and globally unique production system various components are delivered and assembled by a total of seven key suppliers, ranging from chassis and engines through cabins and tires. These components are fitted by the suppliers' own employees directly on the production line. Some 1,500 regular MAN Latin America workers monitor quality during production and are also responsible for product development, administration, marketing and after-sales activities.
