Langner Communications bietet ein neues Tool zur Entwicklung von OPC-Client-Anwendungen an. Das Produkt mit dem Namen PowerOPC Client Developer besteht aus ActiveX-Steuerelementen, mit denen der Zugriff auf OPC-Server beliebiger Hersteller besonders einfach wird. Das Tool unterstützt Visual Basic, Excel, Access, C++, C# und Delphi. Die Lizenzierung erfolgt pro Entwickler, Laufzeit-Lizenzgebühren fallen nicht an. OPC-Server gewinnen zunehmend an Verbreitung, da sie eine standardisierte Zugriffsmöglichkeit auf die Automatisierungskomponenten unterschiedlichster Hersteller bieten. Im Bereich von Windows-Anwendungsprogrammen zur Prozessvisualisierung und Überwachung wird OPC daher als Alternative zu proprietären Windows-Treibern eingesetzt.
