Das Ackerbaujahr 2011 veranschaulichte die große Bedeutung des Faktors Wasser in dem sensiblen Gefüge von Wachstum und Ertrag: Menge, Zeitpunkt und räumliche Verteilung entsprachen dabei nicht den Erwartungen der Landwirtschaft. Dies versetzte - zusammen mit der extremen Herbsttrockenheit in vielen Regionen Deutschlands - die Landwirte in Sorge. Regen und Trockenheit sind nicht zu beeinflussen. Um gute und sichere Erträge im Ackerbau zu erwirtschaften, bedarf es daher geeigneter Strategien, die schwankende Größe Wasser optimal auszunutzen.
