Komptech GmbH is demonstrating the slow-running single-shaft Terminator shredder and the general-purpose Axtor shredder in action

Frohnleiten, (PresseBox) - High crude oil and energy costs, and the increasing shortage of key resources, are dictating global waste management to an ever increasing degree. Rarely before has the recycling of wood, paper, light & precious metals and plastics had such major economic significance. Shredding technology is pivotal in material recycling and energy recovery. The higher the conditioning quality of overall waste volumes for subsequent process steps, the higher the success rate for efficient isolation of raw materials inside.

At the two-day recycling aktiv trade fair, starting on May 18th 2011 at the Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport grounds, Austro-German manufacturer Komptech is showcasing its new, groundbreaking expertise in the field of shredding technology. At the heart of this expertise are the slow-running general-purpose Terminator waste shredder and the Axtor general-purpose wood shredder.

Both mobile machines from Komptech can be seen in action on stand 301, open-air exhibition area A.

Shredding is where the material recycling and energy recovery processes start.

The higher the level of uniformity when fragmenting the diverse base material into the particle fraction required, the more effective the subsequent process steps of waste recycling. This is precisely where the slow-running general-purpose Terminator waste shredder from Komptech is setting standards. Robust and resistant to contraries, the single-shaft shredder masters all kinds of waste. It is just as suitable for bulky refuse, waste wood and building material waste as it is for household waste and commercial waste. The impressive machine also effortlessly shreds paper reels, refrigerators and washing machines.

Four shredding units ensure reliable and uniform conditioning

The robust single-shaft shredder is available from Komptech as stationary and mobile variants in a total of seven performance categories. The operator is able to select between four different shredding units according to the material composition of the waste and the shredding requirement. Letter U stands for universal, UF for universal-fine, F for fine and XF for extra fine conditioning of the base material. The operator is also able to adjust the degree of shredding of the base material using the easy-to-use and continuously adjustable cutting gap controller. The greater the distance selected between roller and opposing comb, the coarser the Terminator breaks up the waste materials.

Extra large fill hopper, high degree of user-friendliness and overload protection for engine and tool elements

The Terminator is driven by a powerful Caterpillar engine. By completely muffling the engine compartment, Komptech has succeeded in reducing noise emissions down to a minimum. The clearly laid-out control console and the machine monitoring unit, controlled by an on-board computer, also enhance the level of user-friendliness. A hydraulic roller drive with load-dependent speed control guarantees optimal utilisation of the engine performance whilst keeping energy efficiency high. So the Terminator works with a high roller speed for easily shreddable material, and when processing power-intensive residual waste, the speed drops but the shredding force increases by as much as four-fold. The extra large fill hopper is another unique selling point of the Terminator. It has a particularly positive effect when handling waste wood and bulky refuse. If unshreddable contraries do manage to enter the inside of the Terminator, an overload mechanism protects the engine and the tool elements from damage. Overall, the Terminator boasts a very high level of robustness and tolerance to contraries.

Versatile, transportable without a special permit and extremely well suited for all terrains

Set up, open up, power on - then start work! This is the concept behind the mobile Terminators from Komptech. Komptech has balanced out perfectly the weight and dimensions of the high-performance machines, meaning the mobile variants of the Terminator can be moved around easily and can be transported to the place of deployment without a special permit. Komptech provides the mobile machines as a hook lift variant (Hook) and as a three-axle central trailer (Trailer) with air-sprung axles. The extra-wide 3-bar baseplates on the caterpillar variant of the Terminator are impressive on loose, challenging terrain.

Long machine service life combined with low maintenance overhead is the distinguishing feature of the stationary Terminators from Komptech. They are available in five different overall sizes and have an electro-mechanical or electro-hydraulic drive depending on customer wishes and requirement profile. On the stationary machines with electro-hydraulic drive, the drive unit can be housed in a container or power compartment, physically separated from the shredding unit.

In action at recycling aktiv: The Terminator 6000S with the "F" shredding unit

Komptech is using the two-day recycling aktiv trade fair to demonstrate the Terminator 6000S as a mobile three-axle chassis (Trailer). The Austro-German manufacturer will equip this machine with an "F" (fine) shredding unit. The "F" unit generates exactly the right size for effective waste splitting. The broad application spectrum of the "F" unit is remarkable - besides residual waste, bulky refuse and commercial waste, this shredding unit also masters waste wood with consummate ease. The aggressive feeder on the "F" unit has a positive bearing on the high throughput. In addition, a roller drive on both sides increases the torque, and hence the shredding force (a feature only available on the S versions of the Terminator).

Two shredding concepts in one machine - the general-purpose Axtor shreds and chips wood

The general-purpose Axtor 8012 wood shredder from Komptech can also been seen in action at the recycling aktiv trade fair. The machine is powered by a 710 HP Caterpillar C18 engine and achieves a throughput rate of up to 300 cubic metres per hour. The most significant features of the general-purpose Axtor wood shredder are its two shredding concepts. As a "fast-runner", and in "shredder" mode, the Axtor prepares green waste for subsequent composting. The freely-swinging tool elements of the Axtor are deployed here. In contrast, the general-purpose wood shredder in chipping mode (with reduced speed) generates uniformly conditioned fuel for cogeneration plants. The material spectrum of the Axtor ranges from untreated waste wood, green waste, bush cuttings and bark to wood trunks, pre-broken root wood and forest wood residue. The Axtor has a long feed table, open towards the front, with filling options on both sides. Also pioneering is its aggressive material feed - two horizontal and two vertical feed rollers ensure the material is seized and transferred to the shredding drum perfectly.
