Fischer buys Rapida 106

At the end of August the two medium-format Rapida presses already in operation at Swiss print enterprise Fischer in Münsingen, near Bern, will be joined by yet another, the third in just three years. Company owner and chief executive Daniel Troxler sealed the deal while on the KBA stand at Drupa.

Following the installation of the first two Rapidas, which were both 105s, Fischer's output more than doubled. "That's not mere marketing spin - it's backed up by production logs and the counter status at the presses," says Troxler with some pride. The new press, a Rapida 106 five-colour coater press with extended delivery, is sure to give output another huge boost. Along with a raft of automation modules it features KBA's unique DriveTronic SIS sidelay-free infeed system. Fischer's primary product lines are business reports, books and luxury catalogues for the watch- and furniture-making industries. With the new press Fischer is aiming to ramp up market share in both sectors.

The outstanding performance of the existing Rapidas made a KBA press the natural choice when new kit was mooted, and tests conducted on various makes of press prior to the purchase confirmed that the Rapida 106's print quality and technology were second to none, placing it at the top of the short list. Just two months back the 75-employee company invested in new pre-press technology. In post-press, Fischer's capabilities include cutting, folding, gang-stitching and gluing.
