Rheinmetall acquires a majority stake in Jenoptik's laser display business

Jena, (PresseBox) - Jenoptik is continuing with the strategic realignment and concentration on its core business. With this acquisition Rheinmetall is rounding off its product portfolio by adding high-performance display systems which represent leading edge technology worldwide.

Rheinmetall Defence has acquired 51 percent of the shares in LDT Laser Display Technology GmbH, Jena from Jenoptik. Over recent years the two companies had been the driving force behind the development of laser projection technology which is used in numerous flight simulators from Rheinmetall Defence.

With the sale of the business which had accounted for approximately one percent of Group sales, Jenoptik is handing over the management to its key client and is concentrating on its core business. The company's registered offices will remain in Jena and Rheinmetall has taken on the employees. Jenoptik had acquired the laser display business in 2002 as part of the assets of the insolvent firm Schneider Laser Technologies AG and developed this further for use in the simulation business.
